Yes you can learn to make your own skep from an online course! 

Through Paula's online Skep Challenge, complete beginners learnt how to make their own straw skep using three simple live videos.

With this course, the challenge is expanded to provide written instructions and diagrams to cater for all learning types, alongside newly recorded videos that proved so successful in the Skep challenge. 

Work through the instructions in your own time, using your own materials or Paula's Skep kit, available to purchase separately.

Paula is an experienced skep maker, producing skeps to use in both keeping bees and capturing and housing honeybee swarms. Using thatchers wheat straw and lapping cane, a skep when made well should withstand the full weight of it's maker when complete!

Making skeps is a very meditative and enjoyable activity once mastered and a perfect way to spend the winter months whilst your bees are not so busy

Paula's skep sets include a starter for you to start work on straight away, a fid to use whilst weaving, straw and lapping cane to complete one skep and one new starter. This is available to UK residents.
